Juan Madrid, endocrinology and nutrition specialist, answers the above question as follows:
“The ‘OMS’ (World Health Organization) points out that a suitable amount of omega 6/omega 3 is from 5/1 to 9/1. So for each gram of omega 3 from 5 to 9 grams of omega 6 can be consumed.
There is currently an excessive omega 6 consumption, and omega 6/omega 3 is from 10/1 to 20/1. Therefore it is important to reduce excessive omega 6 consumption while increasing the intake of omega 3. By maintaining a healthy omega 6/omega 3 balance, one can avoid inflammation as platelets tend not to be deposited at the same rate, and the risk of thrombosis is reduced. Lymphocytes also work better as part of body’s defence system. The risk of diabetes and even depression can also be reduced.
Lodyn cheese has an Omega 3 and Omega 6 ratio of 1/1, (in comparison with 7/2 ratio of conventional goat’s cheeses) taking into account that the goal is 4/1 or less.
